Отголоски Хиросимской трагедии

Шестое августа 1945 года трагическая дата в истории Страны Восходящего солнца.

В этот день американский самолёт, сбросил четырёхтонную атомную бомбу на японский город Хиросиму. В небе вспыхнуло светило доселе невиданной мощности, и взрывная волна прокатилась по планете. В считанные секунды, с лица Земли был стёрт древний город, около восьмидесяти тысяч жителей погибли мгновенно. Ещё примерно столько же умерли позднее от радиации, убивавшей медленно и мучительно. На многие десятилетия была заражена вода и почва.

Знали ли американские военные о страшных последствиях применения атомной бомбы, сейчас спорят историки и политологи. Но в том, что это было не оправданным использованием силы, мало кто сомневается. В Хиросиме действительно располагался крупный военный гарнизон, но остальные 75% населения были мирными жителями. Сходятся в одном, что это преступление против человечности.

Э.М. Ремарк сказал в своем самом известном антивоенном романе «На Западном фронте без перемен»: «Пресса, часто пишет о потерях, однако многие журналисты, часто не видят даже в одной невинно загубленной человеческой душе ужаса происходящего, стараясь свести трагедию к статистике. Людей с их чувствами и переживаниями к безликим цифрам». Ведь никто никогда не посчитал, что это были за люди в Хиросиме и Нагасаки: учёные, изобретатели, писатели, поэты и т. д. Возможно, кто-то бы из них сделался впоследствии известным и полезным для всего мира.

В связи с этим мне хотелось бы вспомнить, удивительную встречу, произошедшую 18 июля на Одесском Международном кинофестивале. Фильмом закрытия ОМКФ 2015 – стала кинолента японского режиссёра Наёми Кавасё – «Ан», в главной роли снялась известная японская актриса – Кики Киррин, а сценаристом выступил Дуреан Сукегава, которые и представили фильм зрителям. (Это впервые, когда наш кинофестиваль посетили гости из Японии).

«Ан» – так в Японии называется сладкая бобовая паста, изготавливаемая по специальному рецепту.

Сюжет картины: «Управляющий небольшой пекарни — Сентаро, берёт на работу семидесятилетнюю Токуо, которая обладает секретом изготовления «Ан», и с этого момента заведение Сентаро начинает приносить доход. В процессе общения Сентаро и Токуо, залечивают старые душевные раны».

Сценарист Дуреан Сукегава, который является и автором книги «Ан», писал эту историю 3 года и переписывал ее 12 раз. Но он всегда хотел, чтобы главную героиню на экране воплотила Кики.

Вот как Сукегава отозвался о своём фильме.

«Это история человека, который выходит за пределы японского общества, существует вне его рамок. Я хочу, чтобы при просмотре люди задумались, в чем же смысл их жизни».

После показа этой кинокартины мне удалось встретиться и через переводчика пообщаться с Дуреаном Сукегавой и Кики Киррин, сказав, что их фильм, это было лучшее, что мне удалось увидеть на кинофестивале, ведь он несёт общечеловеческие ценности, наполнен глубоким философским смыслом, учит состраданию, милосердию и любви к ближним. Сценарист ответил, что весьма польщён, что его картина вызвала столько эмоций, а Кики Киррин молча, взяла мою руку своими миниатюрными ладошками, посмотрела в мои глаза и поклонилась. Её рукопожатие было тёплым, а в жесте было столько выразительности, грациозности и величия, что мне подумалось: «Какая удивительная женщина! Несмотря на преклонный возраст, предпринять долгое путешествие и посетить наш южный город. Хотя друзья и знакомые советовали ей не ехать в Украину, объясняя, что: там опасно – там война! На что Киррин им ответила: « В Японии не менее опасно, то цунами, то землетрясения».

Одно только это, уже вызывает восхищение её отвагой и смелостью. А изучив её творческий путь, проникся уважением ещё больше. Свою актёрскую карьеру Кики Киррин начала в середине 60-х годов прошлого столетия. Она снялась более, чем в 70 –ти кинокартинах и постановках. Это легендарная личность. Ей присуждены многочисленные кинопремиии и награды…В том, числе «Медаль с пурпурной лентой», «Орден Восходящего солнца» и т.д.

За свою работу в кино, Кики Кирин неоднократно признавалась «Лучшей актрисой второго плана», «Лучшей актрисой главной роли», а впоследствии почитатели её таланта, объявили национальным достоянием Японии.

Когда же произошла Хиросимская трагедия, будущей легенде японского кинематографа — Кики Кирин было всего лишь три года. В то время она жила с родителями в Токио, но отголоски тех ужасных событий, навсегда сохранились в её душе.

Уважаемые Дуреан Сукегаву и Киррин Кики, мне хочется, чтобы вы знали, что мы одесситы, и наша творческая группа, тоже чтим память безвинно погибших японцев и разделяем Вашу национальную скорбь. Семьдесят лет назад произошло это бесчеловечное преступление, но отголоски этого события навсегда отпечатались в каждом сострадательном сердце.

И в будущем, и в настоящем подобная трагедия не должна повториться!

OIFF 2013: The closing of the 4th Odessa International Film Festival took place in Odessa

On July 20 the 4-th Odessa International Film Festival Closing Ceremony was held in The Odessa National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. By the results of the public vote, Alexander Veledinsky’s film “The Geographer Drank His Globe Away” won the OIFF Main Award – Grand Prix.

Screening of “A Castle in Italy”, the film nominated for Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival closed the 4-th Odessa International Film Festival.

After the end of the awarding ceremony at the press briefing Viktoria Tigipko noted that number of visits increased by 15% this year and that OIFF plans to expand the festival locations.

OIFF president also announced the date of the 5th Odessa Film Festival — it will be held from 11 till 19 July 2014.

OIFF 2013: The first prizes of the Odessa International Film Festival were awarded in Одесса

July 19, the first awards ceremony of the Odessa Film Festival has been held at the Festival Palace.

It’s a little sad — Yesterday passed the eighth, the penultimate day of a large-scale movie marathon — Fourth Odessa International Film Festival. And last night was a true celebration of Ukrainian cinema — first winners of OIFF were announced!

At the awards ceremony in the festival palace of OIFF president of the festival Victoria Tigipko and other speakers emphasized the importance of the Ukrainian national competition, said that there are new talents in the Ukrainian cinema, and they work with full dedication, with great love for their work.

The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Jury has also defined the best films of Ukrainian National Film Award: feature by Valentyn Vasyanovych «Credenza» for «using comedy to emphasize the problems of our time» and the short film «Ukrainian Lessons» by Ruslan Batytsky, that «struck the jury with its terrible beauty and power of the cinema.»

Casual observers of the film «Lessons of the Ukrainian» were «crushed» his gloom and despair.

The best project of the OIFF-2013 pitching is the feature debut project “Stepne” by Cannes winner Marina Vroda. She gets the main prize of 25,000 UAH from the Festival’s Official Sponsor – UDP Development Company. This year, UDP also became the partner of the OIFF Film Industry Office, organized jointly with the Ukrainian State Film Agency. Besides, the project «Voroshylovgrad» by Yaroslav Lodygin won Special Jury Mention.

The winners of the OIFF main awards — Grand Prix for Best Film of the International Competition, prizes for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor, as well as the ‘Golden Duke’ for the Best Ukrainian Feature Film will be announced today, July 20, at the closing ceremony of the Odessa International Film Festival.

OIFF 2013: Jos Stelling presented his new film at the Fourth OIFF

The famous Dutch director Jos Stelling that had visited Odessa in 2010 as chairman of the international jury of the First OIFF has presented Odessites and guests of the city at the film festival his new film «Maiden and the Death.» («Het Meisje en de Dood»).

Starring: Russian actors Renata Litvinova Sergei Makovetskii, Leonid Bichevin, Svetlana Svetlichnaya and Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks, previously played in «Duska».

The plot of the film includes three time periods — the end of the XIX century (youth of hero of the film Nikolay), the fifties of the XX century and the present day. Nikolay returned to the abandoned hotel, where fifty years ago, he met his unique love. Overcome by memories, he relives the tragic story of his youth, becoming both the narrator and hero of the story.

At a press conference author of the films «De Illusionist», «De wisselwatcher», «De vliegende Hollander», «Duska» told about the idea of film, about Russian literature, Russia and Russian people, about his past works, about metaphors of life, about that is it worth to play with time, about cinema and love.

He stressed that deliberately removed from the film «Death and the Maiden» humor that makes it difficult to develop the film tensity, generated due to two opposites — a man and a woman. Love for the heroine, a TB patient, leads to a sad end because it becomes mortally dangerous for her.

This picture is the co-production of the three countries: Russia, the Netherlands and Germany. Three languages — Russian, German and French — sounded in the tape. According to Jos Stelling, viewer does not need to be a polyglot to understand it.

OIFF 2013: Odessits looked Oscar-winning film «Closely Watched Trains» («Ostře sledované vlaky») by Jiri Menzel at Lanzheronovsky descent

A special screening of the Oscar-winning film «Closely Watched Trains» was held in Odessa, in the Stella Artois Cinema at Langeron Descent. It was presented personally by the director and writer Jiri Menzel.

Czech master of cinema, who earlier, on Monday afternoon, held a workshop for the participants of film school, was pleasantly surprised by the number of viewers, especially young people, who are interested in his work.

«It’s such an old film, it was shot long before the majority of those audience was born» — said the director.

Jiri Menzel is not only the director and screenwriter, but he is also film and theater actor. He became one of the most influential figures in the formative period of so-called «Czech New Wave» in art and cinema in particular.

The movie «Closely Watched Trains», which was filmed on the novel by Czech writer and laureate of Bohumil Hrabal Nobel Prize, became the first feature film for 28 years old Menzel and it has brought him worldwide fame. Filmed in 1966, the movie won the «Oscar» in the category of Best Foreign Language Film in 1968, and it was nominated for a BAFTA Award and the «Golden Globe» in 1969.

In 1969, Menzel shot a polemical film «Larks on a string» («Skrivánci na niti»). The film was banned by the authorities and was released only in 1990, winning the «Golden Bear» at the 40th Berlin International Film Festival.

In 1986, the award-winning Czech again appeared on the list of nominees for the Academy Award with his black comedy «My central village» («Vesničko má středisková»). Menzel was a member of the jury at international festivals in Berlin and Moscow.


OIFF 2013: Ukrainian horror «Sinevir» was screened in Одесса

The first film from the OIFF «Ukrainian Gala Premieres» section became Ukrainian horror «Sinevir».

Horror with Ukrainian production, «Synevir» was presented to audience by the scriptwriter Oleksandr Alyoshechkin, who is also a co-director together with his brother Vyacheslav, producer Vladimir Khorunzhyi and Alexey Kashin, representer of the company «3D Planet».

Anticipating long-expected release of Ukrainian films in Ukrainian theatres, the Odessa festival has ambitions to show the national film industry in the full genre diversity: from metaphysical plunging into other worlds to stylish action and horror films.

The action of the horror film «Synevir» – virtually the first Ukrainian 3D picture – is set in the Soviet Carpathians, around Lake Synevir. Strange events disturb the campers’ quiet pleasant holiday far away from civilization in this mysterious part of the world. The authors promise that the local legends and their full of visual effects screen adaptation will definitely reach everybody.

Presenting the film producer Volodymyr Khorunzhyi told: «Total budget of «Synevir» equals one day of «Avatar” filming», though the Ukrainian thriller is nearly as good as its Western analogues, and that it has been awarded Grand Prix at the Third International 3D-stereo Festival in Moscow.

OIFF 2013: The program of Russian films started from a movie by Viktor Shamirov “The Game of Truth”

The program of Russian films supported by The Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation started this year from a movie by Viktor Shamirov “The Game of Truth”.

It was presented by leading actors Gosha Kutsenko and Irina Apeksimova.

The movie by Viktor Shamirov “The Game of Truth” is about friendship and strokes of fate: three friends and their mutual first love meet for the first time after many years and, fighting embarrassment, decide to tell the truth to any questions of each other.

By the story, based on a popular play by French playwright Philippe Lellouche, three former classmates about 40 years old gather at the flat to talk, drink vodka and remember the youth. Rollicking businessman Mark wants to call the girls, but does not find support from friends: auto dealer Gennady more out of habit remains faithful to his wife, and the owner of the flat — a physicist and a loser Anatoly — has prepared a surprise for all. He invites the star of their course Maya, in which all three of them were in love with 20 years ago. Talk four together was difficult until extremely frank play of truth started. Friends learn about each other something that might have preferred not to know. Can their relationship take the test of truth?

Presenting the movie at the stage, Gosha Kutsenko thanked Odessa people for their warm welcoming of Viktor Shamirov’s films with him acting “The Practice in Beauty” and “That’s What Happening to Me” which were demonstrated at OIFF in 2011 and 2012. This first night was special for the actor, among the viewers there was a “godfather” of his career in cinema, an actor Yuri Kuznetsov.

Irina Apeksimova also shared her personal memories: “Lots of good things started on this stage, I made my debut here and both my life and career have been successful afterwards. I wish this movie to have no worse destiny than mine”.

At the press-conference after the screening, journalists got a hold of a production team for one hour. Actors Gosha Kutsenko and Irina Apeksimova, producer Andrei Novikov and Yuri Kuznetsov talked about first love, personal drama and even about problems of disabled people.

Gosha Kutsenko said the movie was brave and honest, underlining that theatre director Viktor Shamirov has proved to be a great cinema director, too. To wrap the meeting up Gosha Kutsenko pointed out: “All of us wanted to become somebody and all of us have failed to become what or who we wanted. But when two loving hearts meet, you can move forward”.

At the opening ceremony of the 4th Odessa Film Festival, which took place July 12, 2013 at the Odessa Opera Opera and Ballet Theater, the members of the International Jury and competition program were presented to the audience.

Previously all guests of this momentous event walked on the red carpet spread out for them. Representatives of cinematic professions and a long string of government officials and businessmen strolled on it.

President of the festival Victoria Tigipko welcomed all those present and congratulated on the successful start of the 4th Odessa Film Festival: «Every year the festival grows and changes. 2010 was a landmark, because we launched the festival. At the second OIFF we have made an important step and established Ukrainian National Film Award. In the last year we have found the correct format and made it about the audience — now you define the winner of the «Golden Duke» for the best film! Today, we are sure that it was a very good decision. And thanks to our wonderful audience a unique atmosphere and, of course, 9 days of good cinema awaits you at the OIFF» — said Victoria from the stage.

This year 12 films were selected for the OIFF International Competition. Also, 4 features and 12 shorts are nominated for the Ukrainian National Film Award.

Emir Kusturica was awarded the first prize of the Odessa Film Festival 2013 — «Golden Duke» for Lifetime Achievement.

Screening of the opening film «All Is Lost» by J.C. Chandor was held on the stage of Opera Theater. It was presented by the producer of the film — Odessa-born Anna Gerb.

A reception at the Odessa Palais Royal was the filial chord of the evening. Guests and participants of the Odessa Film Festival were able to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of informal communication, while listening to the music played by jazz-band of Boris Zolotorev and soloist Anastasiya Bukina.


Russian films week at the Odessa film festival

Within the ‘Russian Films Week’ of 4th Odessa Film Festival, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, 7 new Russian movies will be screened, including ‘The Game of Truth’ by Viktor Shamirov starring Gosha Kutsenko and Irina Apeksimova, the favorite of ‘Kinotavr’ — documentary ‘Pipeline’ by Vitaliy Mansky and the crime drama ‘Still alive’ by Alexandr Atanesian with Andrei Panin.

The traditional OIFF section is opened by the latest work of the Russian theater and film director Viktor Shamirov — ‘The Game of Truth’, the successful film version of the eponymous play by Philippe Lellouche. The film depicts a meeting of the three former classmates, who 20 years ago were in love with the same woman. The picture will be presented by the producer Timur Bekmambetov, and by the performer of one of the leading roles and co-producer — Gosha Kutsenko.

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Vitaliy Mansky wiil visit Odessa to show his film ‘Pipeline’. His picture is an observation of the lives of ordinary people, who live near the gas pipeline ‘Western Siberia — Western Europe’. The film participated in the main competition of the film festival ‘Kinotavr’ where Mansky received a prize for the best directing.

Crime drama ‘Still alive’ — ​​the Russian version of the story of the black widow — will be brought to the 4th Odessa Film Festival by the director of the film Alexandr Atanesian. Filming of the movie, in which tragically deceased actor Andrei Panin played his last role, was held in Odessa.

‘Kinotavr’ laureat, film-calendar of 22 short stories, ‘Celestial Wifes of the Meadow Mari’ by Aleksey Fedorchenko, philosophical work of Bakhtiar Khudoynazarov ‘Waiting for the Sea’, last year’s International Film Festival in Rome opening movie and the crime drama ‘Major’ by Yuri Bykov, who participated in the Cannes Week of criticism’ will be also screened as a part of the ‘Russian Films Week’.

In addition, the modern Russian cinema is represented in the international competition program by ‘Kinotavr’- winner ‘The Geographer Drank His Globe Away’ by Alexander Veledinsky and in the section ‘Gala Premieres’ by picture of Jos Stelling ‘The Girl and Death’.

The competition programs of the OIFF have been announced

11 films were selected for the OIFF International Competition. The majority of the film directors are debutants or emerging filmmakers, nevertheless, they already collaborate with the leading actors of Europe, USA and Asia.

In his debut feature ‘The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman’ award-winning American commercial director Fredrik Bond gathered international star cast – Shia LaBeaouf (‘Transformers’), Evan Rachel Wood (‘The Wrestler’), Mads Mikkelsen (‘Casino Royale’) and Til Schweiger (‘Rabbit Without Ears’).

Chili film director Alicia Scherson starred Rutger Hauer (‘Blade Runner’) in her picture ‘The Future’.

Tim Roth and Peter Mullan performed in the second feature of the young British director Craig Viveiros — ‘The Liability’.

In the debut feature of Indian director Ritesh Batra ‘The Lunchbox’ the leading role was performed by Bollywood and Hollywood star Irrfan Khan (‘Slumdog Millionaire’).

In the OIFF International Competition Russia is represented by director Aleksandr Veledinskiy with existential drama ‘The Geographer Drank His Globe Away’ starring Konstantin Khabenskiy.

Much-anticipated and the most discussed Ukrainian film project of the year – ‘Parajanov’ by Serge Avedikian & Elena Fetisova, biopic of the legendary Armenian-Ukrainian film director of the 20th century – is represented in two OIFF’ competition programs at the same time – International Competition and Ukrainian National Film Award. This year ‘Parajanov’ will also appear in the competition section East of the West at Karlovy Vary IFF. Among the nominees for the Ukrainian National Film Award in the feature section are visionary film by Ihor Podolchak ‘Delirium’, social dramedy by Valentyn Vasyanovych ‘Credenza’ and surrealistic phantasy by Alisa Pavlovskaya ‘I don’t wanna die’, featuring real Odessa’ culture underground characters.

There are 12 films in the shorts section of the Ukrainian National Film Award – award-winning ‘Nuclear Waste’ by Myroslav Slaboshpytskyy (Silver Leopard at Locarno IFF , Grand-Prix at Kinoshok IFF); ‘Nympho’ by Oleg Borshchevskyi – Ukrainian probe at erotic movie; documentaries -independent project by Olexandr Techynskyy ‘Sirs and Misters’ and ‘Junk Edit’ by Dmytro Gluhenky; as well as other films, the majority of which are debuts.
